Awareness for Fairness

the EU education project 2012-2012

The state office for developmental cooperation Berlin (LEZ) of the State Ministry of Economic Affairs Tecnology and Women is executing a project in close cooperation with KATE, the Association for solidary developmental cooperation (GSE), The Berlin Development Education and Information Center (EPIZ) and the BGZ Berlin International Cooperation Agency GmbH as well as their European partners Welthaus Linz (Austria) Oecumenic Academy Prag (Czech Republic) and Leeds Development Education Centre (UK). The project is funded by the European Union and focuses on Global Learning within the EU.

Within the framework of the project we will also work together with partners from so called developing countries and undertake  an international exchange of experiences. The partners which in the EU jargon are called associates are the following


The aim of the project "Awareness for fairness" is to raise awareness with policy-makers to implement development issues in curricula and to anchor the topic in local community policies.
The main focus of the project is on topics like fair trade, precarious working conditions, human rights and the social consequenses of the globalisation.



1. Institution-building

  • set-up of multi-stakeholder networks involving developing countries' actors
  • awareness-raising with policy-makers to implement development issues in curricula and to anchor the topic in local community policies
  • develop guidelines for school development processes (f.i. "fair schools") and consult education managers (school directors) on the issue
  • develop and publish joint global education catalogues of NGOs and administration;
  • intervene for the set-up of agreements between NGOs, schools and administration; formulate policy recommendations for national and EU level reg. institutionalisation of global education

2. Capacity building

  • Collect and evaluate materials & tools, adapt them to settings and target group needs ; elaborate and test and upgrade new tools to fill gaps, provide them to users,
  • training for at least 50 NGOs and 200 educators/multipliers in the area of high quality educational materials
  • install a web-based exchange platform for multipliers


3. Implementation

  • Execute high-quality development education events (with min. 10,000 users/learners) which are target-group oriented (for children, youth, adults), and setting-oriented (classroom, project work, fairs, etc.)
  • using capacities and materials/tools provided through the project; assess improvements
  • formule conclusions for development education, support school initiatives

4. Dissemination

  • Awareness-raising campaigns, workshops in the area of development eduaction
